The Wiley Scholarship for Early Career Librarians

When we announced the Wiley Scholarship for Early Career Librarians, we hoped that our call for applications would reach enough people. It turns out that the outpouring of creativity, scholarship, and insight overwhelmed us. In reading, watching, and listening to your submissions, we learned so much about the paths that lead people to librarianship and the changes that librarians are anticipating. After much deliberation, we selected three winners. It’s my pleasure to congratulate Casandra Laskowski, Matthew Thompson, and Brandon West, the 2015 winners of the Wiley Scholarship for Early Career Librarians.

Casandra Laskowski is currently an MLIS candidate at the University of Arizona School of Information. She is also a Law Library Fellow at the Daniel F. Cracchiolo Law Library. You can view Casandra’s video interview here. Casandra will be attending ER&L in April.

Matthew Thompson is a Project Cataloger at the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, Virginia. You can read Matthew’s Twitter interview here. Matthew will be attending SLA in June.

Brandon West is currently working towards his Certificate of Graduate Study in Online Learning and Teaching at University at Albany. He is also a Reference and Instruction Librarian in the Social Sciences at SUNY Geneseo. You can watch Brandon’s VoiceThread interview here. Brandon will be attending ALA Annual in June.

Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to everyone who applied. We’d also like to thank the library community as a whole. A full 61% of our applicants reported hearing about this opportunity from another librarian. Thanks for spreading the word.
